Education Theme Group – Case Study
“Extended Learning”
Headteachers of our local schools feel that links with families and parents are particularly valuable in raising children’s achievement. Within schools there are many varied programmes to support learning both within curriculum time and after school.
There was a need for work which brought together children and their families to work on supporting learning. Headteachers were very clear that this type of support would be very valuable as it was something which they did not have the capacity to do.
Through the Education Theme Group DWNMP funded a range of family learning events for children and parents which are enjoyable and thus encourage parental support for learning and participation in school life. The scheme also aims to encourage parents from neighbouring schools to participate in joint events and thus encourage social inclusion and community cohesion.
